This is a short Horror story that happened to us at USAbilityclassifieds.com

Created By: ability

Here’s a short one from my personal vault of retail horror:
We found the actual factory in China that makes a particular mobility scooter.

You know, the one that’s marketed here in the USA as a “premium lifestyle mobility experience” (translation: overpriced wheels). Retail price? Just over $6,000. This was five years ago.

We imported ten units, each with a better lithium battery, rebranded straight from the source. Landed cost with Taxes and shipping? Around $15,000 total. That’s right: $1,500 each.

So, I thought, hey, let’s be generous:

  • $200 for marketing
  • $200 to ship anywhere in the Country
  • $400 to make a humble buck and keep the lights on

Cue the angry mob. Retailers came for me like I’d insulted their grandmother’s casserole. Customers, bless their brainwashed hearts,

told me their trusted retailer said I was a scammer, a copycat, and possibly dangerous. Apparently, selling affordable mobility scooters is now a criminal offense.

You know the saying: If it’s too good to be true, it’s probably someone trying to help the vulnerable without gouging them.

These retailers, sorry, I mean “compassionate advocates for the disabled”, have convinced the public that anyone offering fair prices must be up to no good.

I was genuinely attacked. Not physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and maybe telepathically.

After three months of grief and existential dread, I wholesaled the scooters and swore off selling daily living aids.

The elderly and disability sector? It’s a closed shop. And the gatekeepers? They’re not letting go of the buffet.

Anyway, we need stories. Real ones. Funny ones. Tragic ones. Let’s expose the feeding frenzy.   This really did happen. ðŸ˜‡ 💯%

Warmly (and slightly traumatised),
